highway of tears

What story are the reporters telling? They focus mainly on Madison Scott and Loren Leslie , who were young white women. They only talk briefly about Indigenous women like Ramona Wilson or Colleen MacMillen . You can tell because Madison and Loren’s stories get the most time and emotion, while others are mentioned quickly. How much time is spent on the Indigenous women? not a lot, they are put in the background. The show doesn't tell their full stories or talk about racism or how the police ignored them. Why does the show start with Madison, then Loren, then Indigenous women? The media shows more interest in white women because they are seen as more relatable. It shows that white victims get more attention than Indigenous women. Who watches true crime shows and why? Women aged 25–50,  Middle class,  People who care about safety , justice , or like mystery stories and they watch it cause they can feel a connection with the parents of the missing girls as if they...

scooby doo

what assumptions or beliefs do Scooby do's creators have that are reflected in the content?  i would say some assumptions or beliefs are  Skepticism : The show shows that spooky stuff usually has a logical, human explanation. Youth as heroes : The young gang can solve mysteries, showing that kids can be smart and brave  Stereotypes : Characters follow traditional roles, Fred being the leader, Velma is smart, Daphne needs rescuing, Shaggy & Scooby are scared and funny.   how does this make you feel, based on how similar or different you are from the people portrayed in the media product?  i find it too stereotypical that its annoying, its a good show especially for kids and deals with some heavy stuff but it needs to not be s stereotypical. i wouldnt want my kid watching something and thinking you have to always be saved by a man or that no one will like you cause ur a nerd.   how does the commercial purpose (its for profit right?) of Scooby Do...

vigilante

Andre Bamberski  Andre Bamberski suspected his daughters step father in her rape and ultimately her death. Bmaberski hired two men to kidnap the step father, Dieter Krombach, and take him to France to be prosecuted. the French courthouse sentenced Krombach to 15 years for "intentional violence that led to unintentional death." Andre Bamberski was sentenced to 3 years but only served a fraction of that.  the answer to whether it was justified is to be debated on one hand Andre was motivated by the strong desire for justice for his daughter who was so deeply wronged. the failure of the German legal system didn't help this situation at all either and his daughter not getting the justice she deserved could have clouded his judgement. Vigilantism undermines the rule of law. no matter how bad the crime, taking the law into one's hands can lead to further legal problems. in this case Bamberskis decision to kidnap Krombach was still illegal and did lead to him fa...

legalize drugs

Personally I think only some drugs should be legalized, for example... Mushrooms - studies have proven that psilocybin can help with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and even addiction, with controlled usage. Its harder to abuse and get addicted to like other drugs.  MDMA - same as mushrooms it can be used to help with the same mental health disorders, it has a lower risk of overdosing and is safe in controlled environments.  Cocaine - it can be used for medical procedures and legalizing it would help it get off the black mark, prevent unsafe usage and ensure quality control.  Opioids - in controlled forms I can see how it can be okay.

legalize sex trade

why should the sex trade should or shouldn't be legalized?  personally I think it should be legalized, prostitutes of any kind really need to catch a break once in awhile. many men and women who are in the sex trade do it cause the need to, they need the money and you gotta do what you gotta do.  legalizing the sex trade would actually improve the safety of sex workers with legal protection, access to health care (mental and physical) and safer working conditions making the violence toll go down. it would reduce trafficking and exploitation cause it would be easier to identify workers  if they go missing/ get put in trafficking rings. health care would be easier to get and they would have better health monitoring, annual STI testing and education which could help the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Harper, short and long term affects

the affects after someone has been assaulted differs from victim to victim and the way people may react because of who the perpetrator is, the nature of the assault, how long it lasted and how people react to the victims story.  harper went through a terrible assault which ended up with her at first wanting to catch the guy and remembering every detail to not wanting to talk to the detectives at all and changing her appearance, breaking up with her boyfriend, moving apartments. she slept with shoes on and only in the day for awhile and added many locks to her door, these are long term affects many people go through after an assault.  many victims will get PTSD, flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety and depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts, dissociation and not being able to focus on work or school. victims may also dive into drugs or alcohol to "feel something' again not wanting to live as a victim anymore.  victims will often blame themselves for their assault and...

youth crime in school

Youth crime in school  Youth crime in school is a growing issue everywhere, affecting not just students safety but also staff members. I believe it could be one of the most dangerous places for youth now because of many factors like bullying, exposure to substance use, violence, social media/ cyberbullying, and more.  Bullying / social media / cyberbullying  Whether its online or in person, emotional or physical bullying someone can highly affect them and maybe even those around them. The long term affects from this can range from anxiety all the way to suicidal thoughts. Bullying can lead to violent confrontations in school making the environment unsafe.  On September 27th a 13 year old girl was attacked by a group of approximately 30 other kids after being lured to a beach in Kelowna expecting to hang out with one of her friends. She was pushed to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched until she was unconscious. She went to school with most involved.  Ex...
